नाम रखने का कारण

इस सूरा में एक जगह आले इमरान का उल्लेख किया गया है। उसी को चिन्ह के रूप में इस सूरत का नाम निर्धारित कर दिया गया है। (आले इमरान का अर्थ है इमरान की सन्तति)

अवतरणकाल

पहला अभिभाषण सूरा के प्रारंभ से आयत 32 तक है वह संभवतः बद्र के युद्ध के पश्चात निकट के समय में ही अवतरित हुआ है।

दूसरा अभिभाषण आयत 33 से प्रारंभ होता है और आयत 63 पर समाप्त होता है। तीसरा अभिभाषण आयत 64 से आरम्भ होकर आयत 120 तक चलता है और उसका समय प्रथम अभिभाषण के समय से मिला हुआ ही प्रतीत होता है। चौथा अभिभाषण आयत 121 से सूरत के अंत तक चला गया है जो उहुद के युद्ध के पश्चात अवतरित हुआ है।

1. सूरह बकराह में सत्य धर्म पर ईमान लाने वालों को जिन आज़माइशों, मुसीबतों और कठिनाइयों से समय से पहले ही सावधान कर दिया गया था पूरी प्रचण्डता के साथ सामने आ चुकी थीं। बद्र के युद्ध में यद्यपि ईमान वालों को विजय प्राप्त हुई थी लेकिन यह युद्ध मानो मधुमक्खी के छत्ते में पत्थर मारना था। अतएव इसके बाद हर तरफ तूफान के लक्षण दिखाई देने लगे और मुसलमानों को स्थाई भय और निरंतर बेचैनी का सामना करना पड़ गया।

2. हिजरत के बाद नबी (सल्ल) ने मदीना के आस-पास के यहूदी क़बीलों के साथ जो समझौते किए थे उन लोगों ने उन समझौतों का तनिक भी आदर न किया। (और निरंतर उनकी अवहेलना करने लगे।) अंततः उनकी शरारतें और अनुबंध-भंग सहन-सीमा से आगे बढ़ गए तो बद्र के कुछ महीनों के बाद बनी कैनुकाअ पर, जो इन यहूदी कबीलों में सबसे अधिक दुष्ट लोग थे, आक्रमण कर दिया और उन्हें मदीना के आस-पास से निकाल बाहर किया। किन्तु इससे दूसरे यहूदी कबीलों की दुश्मनी की आग और अधिक भड़क उठी। उन्होंने मदीना के मुनाफिक (कपटाचारी) मुसलमानों और हिजाज़ के बहुदेववादी कबीलों के साथ साज़-बाज़ करके इस्लाम और मुसलमानों के लिए ख़तरे ही ख़तरे पैदा कर दिए।

3. बद्र की पराजय के बाद कुरैश के दिलों में प्रतिशोध की आग भड़क रही थी। उस पर सबसे अधिक तेल यहूदियों ने छिड़का नतीजा यह हुआ कि एक वर्ष के बाद मक्का से तीन हज़ार के भारी सैन्यदल ने मदीना पर आक्रमण कर दिया और उहुद के आंचल में वह युद्ध हुआ जो उहुद की लड़ाई के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है।

4. उहुद की लड़ाई में मुसलमानों की जो पराजय हुई उसमें यद्यपि मुनाफिकों की तदबीरों का एक बड़ा हिस्सा था, लेकिन इसके साथ मुसलमानों की कमजोरियों का हिस्सा भी कम नहीं था। इसलिए इसकी ज़रूरत कि युद्ध के पश्चात इस युद्ध के पूरे घटनाक्रम की एक विस्तृत समीक्षा की जाए और इस्लामी दृष्टिकोण से जो कमज़ोरियाँ मुसलमानों में पाई जाती थीं एक-एक को इंगित करके उसके सुधार के सम्बन्ध में आदेश दिए जाएं। इस सिलसिले में यह बात भी दृष्टि में रखने योग्य है कि उस युद्ध पर कुरान की समीक्षा उन समीक्षाओं से कितनी भिन्न है जो दुनिया के सामान्य जनरल लड़ाइयों के बाद किया करते हैं।
