Muslims Across UK Gather to Pray for Rain and Relief From Drought

British Muslims gathered at mosques across the United Kingdom on Sunday, August 16, for a National Day of Prayer for Rain as prolonged dry weather and drought conditions continued to affect parts of England.

Mosques across the country held Salat al-Istisqa, the traditional Islamic prayer performed during periods of drought and water scarcity.

The prayer follows a Prophetic tradition in which Muslims turn to Allah for mercy and ask for beneficial rainfall during times of hardship.

The national initiative was organized amid growing concerns over the impact of persistent dry conditions on farmers, wildlife and water supplies.

Alongside the special prayers, Muslim organizations encouraged communities to give charity, conserve water and reflect on their responsibility toward the environment and people affected by the drought.

Rain was reported after prayers

Rain was reported in parts of the United Kingdom following Sunday’s prayers, with the development drawing attention among communities that had gathered to seek relief from the prolonged dry spell.

The reported rainfall came as parts of England continued to experience unusually dry conditions.
