Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has told Hajj 2026 pilgrims to stay inside their camps and avoid going outdoors between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
The instruction covers the hottest hours of the day, when the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke is at its highest.
The ministry also told pilgrims to avoid making the journey if the walk is physically exhausting due to the heat.
The ministry instructed pilgrims to call emergency services on 911 immediately if they experience dizziness, a rise in body temperature, headache, or blurred vision.
More than 50,000 healthcare staff and 3,000 ambulances are on standby to assist pilgrims across the holy sites. Saudi health authorities said medical teams had already treated 144 people for heatstroke as the main Hajj rituals began.
Temperatures are at peak between 44°C and 47°C in the days leading up to Arafah, with conditions expected to remain extremely hot throughout Hajj 2026. Strong winds of 15 to 40 km/h are also expected to push dust and sand into the air during daytime hours, creating added health risks for pilgrims with respiratory conditions.
