Starbucks has officially introduced a new range of protein-rich beverages – Protein Lattes and Protein Cold Foam – now available across stores in the United States and Canada.
The coffee giant announced the launch on September 29, 2025, marking a major step towards meeting the growing demand for high-protein, functional drinks. A grande size (16 oz) of these beverages can deliver up to 36 grams of protein, making them one of the most nutrient-dense coffee options on the Starbucks menu.
What’s New in Starbucks Protein Drinks?
- Protein Lattes: Made with protein-boosted milk – a blend of 2% milk and unflavored whey protein – offering smoother texture and extra nutrition.
- Protein Cold Foam: A frothy topping that can be added to cold coffees, teas, and Refreshers. It adds about 15 grams of protein in a grande size.
- Flavors: Options include Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte, Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew, and Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Latte.
- Low-Sugar Choices: Customers can also choose sugar-free and zero-added sugar versions.
Why Starbucks is Adding Protein to Coffee
Starbucks’ decision reflects the growing consumer shift towards functional beverages that combine taste with health benefits. High-protein diets have surged in popularity worldwide, and this new lineup is designed to appeal to health-conscious customers who don’t want to compromise on flavor.
Early Reviews
Food critics who tried the new drinks reported that the texture was smooth and creamy, without the chalky aftertaste often associated with protein powders. However, nutritionists caution that while these beverages boost protein intake, some versions still contain added sugar, so moderation is key.
Availability
The new Starbucks protein beverages are currently available in the U.S. and Canada. Starbucks has confirmed that the drinks will remain a permanent part of the menu. International expansion, including markets such as India, has not yet been announced.
