Key Takeaways

  • Makkah schools shift to remote learning from Monday, 12 May 2026, ahead of Hajj 2026
  • Both male and female students are affected by the switch
  • The Eid al-Adha school holiday begins two weeks after the transition

Schools in Makkah al-Mukarramah will move to remote learning from Monday, 12 May 2026, the Saudi Ministry of Education has announced.

This prepares schools for the annual Hajj 2026 season, when millions of pilgrims travel to the holy city and place significant pressure on roads, infrastructure, and public services.

The switch to online classes applies to both male and female students across schools in Makkah. The Ministry said the transition to a remote learning system covers a number of schools in the city, putting classes on digital platforms while the Hajj 2026 season gets underway.

From the start of online learning on 12 May, two weeks remain before the Eid al-Adha school holiday begins for students.

Eid al-Adha is expected to fall on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, with Hajj beginning on 25 May 2026.
