Laylatul Qadr 2027 (Shab-e-Qadr): Dates, Signs, Duas and What to Do

Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power, is better than a thousand months (Surah al-Qadr 97:3). In 2027, Ramadan is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February, so the last ten nights are expected to run from the evening of Saturday, 27 February to the evening of Sunday, 7 March 2027, subject to moon sighting.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Seek Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017). Many Muslims give special attention to the 27th night, but the night is not fixed, so the best practice is to worship on all of the last ten nights.

In Islam the night comes before the day, so the “27th night” starts at Maghrib on the evening before the 27th fast. India, Pakistan and some other countries may begin Ramadan one day after Saudi Arabia; use the right-hand column in that case. See exact Maghrib times in our Ramadan 2027 world timetable and the India timetable.

Why Laylatul Qadr is so important

  • The Quran was revealed on this night (Surah al-Qadr 97:1).
  • Worship on this night is better than worship of a thousand months, more than 83 years (97:3).
  • The angels and Jibreel (AS) descend, and the night is peace until dawn (97:4–5).
  • “Whoever stands in prayer on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and hoping for reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1901)

The best dua for Laylatul Qadr

Sayyidah Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet ﷺ what she should say if she found Laylatul Qadr. He taught her:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni.
“O Allah, You are the Pardoner and You love to pardon, so pardon me.” (Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 3513; Sunan Ibn Majah 3850)

What to do on Laylatul Qadr: a simple plan

  1. Pray Isha and Taraweeh in congregation. Praying Isha and Fajr in jama’ah is itself a great reward.
  2. Offer Nafl prayers (Qiyam al-Layl / Tahajjud). There is no fixed number of rak’ahs or special method for this night; pray two rak’ahs at a time as long as you can.
  3. Recite the Quran with understanding, including Surah al-Qadr.
  4. Make dua and Istighfar, especially the dua above, and pray for your parents, family and the Ummah.
  5. Do Dhikr: SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, and Durood on the Prophet ﷺ.
  6. Give Sadaqah on each of the last ten nights, so you are sure to give on Laylatul Qadr. You can also check your Zakat with our calculator.
  7. Eat Sehri and pray Fajr before you rest.

I’tikaf in the last ten days

The Prophet ﷺ used to observe I’tikaf (spiritual retreat in the Masjid) in the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah took him (Sahih al-Bukhari 2026). For the Sunnah I’tikaf, men enter the Masjid before Maghrib on the 20th day of Ramadan, expected Saturday, 27 February 2027, and stay until the Eid moon is sighted.

Signs of Laylatul Qadr

According to a hadith in Sahih Muslim (762), on the morning after Laylatul Qadr the sun rises white, without strong rays. Scholars also mention that the night is calm and peaceful. These signs are mostly noticed afterwards, so do not wait for signs. Worship on every one of the last ten nights.
