Madinah – A royal decree has been issued appointing Sheikh Saleh bin Awad Al-Maghamsi as an Imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. He will also lead his first prayer at Masjid an-Nabawi at Isha on 21 February, 2026.
The appointment brings a highly respected scholar with decades of experience in Islamic teaching and Quran interpretation to the ranks of those leading prayers at Masjid an-Nabawi.
Sheikh Al-Maghamsi, born on November 17, 1963, in the Madinah Region, studied Arabic language and Islamic sciences at King Abdul Aziz University.
He received advanced religious training under some of the Kingdom’s most prominent scholars, including Sheikh Ibn Baaz, Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, Sheikh Abu Bakr Al-Jazairi, and Sheikh Mohammed Attia Salem.
Before his new appointment, Sheikh Al-Maghamsi served as Imam and Khatib of Quba Mosque, the historic first mosque of Islam, where his Friday sermons and weekly Quran interpretation lessons drew large crowds.
He also worked as a lecturer at Taibah University and directed the Center for Research and Studies in Madinah.
Beyond the prayer niche, Sheikh Al-Maghamsi is widely known across the Arab world for his television appearances, where he discusses Quran interpretation (tafsir), Islamic history, fiqh, and contemporary social issues.
