Meaning: “Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will get what they intended.”

Narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) – Sahih al-Bukhari 1; also Sahih Muslim 1907

Lesson for today: This is the very first Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari, and scholars say it holds a third of the religion. The same action, studying, working or helping someone, can be ordinary or an act of worship depending on why we do it. Before you start your work today, renew your Niyyah: do it for the sake of Allah, honestly and well.
