Ramzaan Day 1 Dua: First Day of Ramadan Supplication with Meaning

Ramzaan Day 1 Dua: Start Ramadan with the Right Supplication

The holy month of Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer, self-reflection, and supplication (dua). Beginning Ramadan with sincere dua helps set a spiritual tone for the rest of the month and draws a believer closer to Allah. (IslamiCity)

🕌 What to Recite on the First Day

One traditional supplication attributed to the start of Ramadan is the Day 1 Ramadan Dua that asks Allah to make your fasting and worship sincere and accepted:

Arabic:
(Alim)

Transliteration:
Allahumma ijʿal siyami fihi siyama as-sa’imina, wa qiyami fihi qiyama al-qa’imina… (Alim)

English Meaning:
“O Allah, on this day make my fast like the fast of those who truly fast, and my standing in prayer like the standing of those who truly stand (in prayer). Awaken me from the sleep of the heedless, forgive my sins today, O Lord of all the worlds, and pardon me, O one who pardons the sinners.” (Alim)

This dua beautifully captures the spirit of Ramadan — seeking sincerity in worship, spiritual alertness, forgiveness, and mercy. (Alim)

📿 Intention (Niyyah) for Fasting

Before the dawn meal (suhoor), it is recommended to make the intention to fast. A simple Arabic niyyah that many recite is: (My Islam)

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ
Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri Ramadan
“I intend to fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.” (My Islam)

This intention helps transform the act of abstaining from food and drink into an act of worship for Allah. (My Islam)

🌙 Spiritual Tips for Day 1

  • Start with Forgiveness: Ask Allah for mercy and forgiveness as you begin the Ramadan journey. (Mubarak Academy)
  • Increase Dua: Ramadan is an opportune time to raise hands in supplication throughout the day and night. (IslamiCity)
  • Focus on Ibadah: Beyond fasting, engage in extra prayers, Qur’an recitation, and dhikr to maximize blessings. (MuslimSG)

Why These Duas Matter

The first days of Ramadan are especially meant for mercy and forgiveness. Believers are encouraged to start the month by seeking Allah’s compassion, cleansing the heart, and renewing intentions for worship and obedience. (Mubarak Academy)
