  6. Political and Familial Connections: Ranya Rao is the stepdaughter of K. Ramachandra Rao, a senior officer in the Karnataka Police with the rank of Director General of Police, which has drawn political attention.
  7. Alleged Coercion Claims: Rao reportedly claimed she was coerced into smuggling gold and that her family was threatened. These allegations remain under investigation.
  8. Widespread Impact: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has expanded the probe to include hawala networks and larger smuggling syndicates operating across India.
  9. International Implications: Multiple international trips underscore the transnational nature of the illicit trade and challenges in curbing such activities.
  10. Ongoing Legal Proceedings: The High Court has scheduled a hearing for September 11, 2025, to review the preventive detention under COFEPOSA and other related matters.
