💖 Four Centuries of Continuous Quran Recitation — A Timeless Story of Love and Faith
They say, when love reaches its peak, it becomes worship… In the 10th Hijri century, when Sultan Selim I ascended the throne of the Caliphate, his heart carried only one desire — to preserve every sacred relic associated with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and to serve them as the greatest honor of his life.
Sultan Selim brought the Holy Relics (Tabarrukat) of the Prophet ﷺ from Egypt to Istanbul, placing them inside a special chamber within the Topkapi Palace. But this was no ordinary room — it was a space glowing with divine light. The Sultan himself would personally sweep the floor of this chamber every day. Imagine — a mighty ruler, before whom the world bowed, holding a broom in his hands, head lowered in humility — because for him, it wasn’t cleaning… it was an act of love and devotion.
He then appointed Huffaz-e-Quran (memorizers of the Quran) to recite the Holy Quran continuously, 24 hours a day. As soon as one group finished, another began — ensuring that not for a single moment did the recitation cease. And thus, for four hundred years without interruption, the words of Allah resonated in that sacred chamber… No silence of the night, no pause of the day — only the melody of the Quran, filling every moment with spiritual peace.
It was a place where time seemed to stand still — where every breath, every gust of air, every wall bore witness to the recitation of the Divine Word.
When the Ottoman Caliphate came to an end, this blessed practice also ceased… Yet even today, it is said that if one stands in that chamber, one can still feel a gentle whisper from the unseen — “Allahu Akbar… Bismillah…” as if the echo of four centuries of Quranic recitation still lingers in the air…
